What can I say? Life is just busy, and good. I can’t believe we are shooting tomorrow with an actual crew. I hope Anisa and I can do our best to ignore the camera and just be ourselves. We both got camera shy a bit on Design Wars….maybe this time we can just relax. We may have to break out some wine before noon–director’s suggestion.
We pulled out all the stops for the kitchen redesign we are presented to our “client”. She is really Anisa’s hairstylist who lives with a super dark & dated kitchen. We hope she will love our suggestions.
It represents all things we love–vintage & warm & modern: brass campaign hardware & wall-mounted faucet, black-painted windows (3 across the sink) which showcases white pottery on its matching black shelf, marquee sconces which spells out “e n j o y” next to the farm table with assorted wooden chairs. The glass bubble pendant is a splurge as well as the les indiennes “josephine” fabric. Surely she will like the white-painted floors and marble tops which wrap-around to act as the backsplash, too. To complete our renovation, we need a Smeg fridge (below) and 3 white depot sconces to showcase the windows and shelf. What do you think?!
and elevation:
Next up–what to wear?!! Tom, the director, wants us to bring several outfits so he can help select what we wear for the three different shots (presenting to client, construction & interviews).
I had to go shopping.
I would love to wear something like below. It is how I feel about our designs–mixing the masculine & feminine (leather jacket with soft, cream skirt), a little undone (the relaxed, messy hair), and bringing in many elements (cotton shirt, brown leather belt, oversized bag)–it is just such a pretty look.
I like this a lot, too:
How awesome are these leather pants & the sweater & fur? I am dieting for this outfit alone. I ain’t kidding. I’m starting today. Maybe.
I didn’t diet the other night. A group of women who all work in design came over and we had potluck. It was one of the best nights. This was the scene in the kitchen after…about 5 bottles of wine later. I love all of y’all!
All of the food was amazing, but this is the only dish for which I have a recipe. Jennifer of Vreeland Road brought this greek orzo salad and I still can’t stop thinking about it! I have the recipe. If you want it, email me.
back to clothes….what I think I’m gonna wear is a look similar to this: white blazer, but with a white shirt & jeans (I ordered from Madewell, JCrew’s sis, and I am quite pleased with their stuff.)
I broke down and got me some new specs–the Crosby from Warby Parker. Wow, I am totally impressed with this company, too. (I get nothing for saying so–they are just running it the old-fashioned way with good ol’ customer service.)
Aren’t they cute? (she is cute, too I promise to post a pic of what I actually wore and of me in my new glasses).
I also bought this demin-on-denim ensemble from Madewell. You like? I am planning on trying this with my yellow pumps.
For more shopping–I have to tell you about our friend Jonathan’s sale at MG + BW. That’s a pretty nice amount for a shopping spree!
Have a great beginning to the week. The weather in Atlanta has been cool and beautiful this weekend. Where can I live where it is always 75 & sunny?
Julie

I would love the greek orzo recipe.
Many thanks.
Digging that kitchen plan girl
So sad I missed the fun evening…….good luck tomorrow! You will knock it out I’m sure…..

I think its safe to say Anisa will continue to have great hair for years after you all are done with her stylist’s kitchen. That plan is ROCKIN! Gotta get me some of those letters in my life somewhere. Sending you big prayers and good vibrations today!
Love to both you sweet peas,
Jen
p.s. Thanks for the outfit inspirations and the sexy specs – you’re on fire!
I can’t wait to hear how everything goes – you two will rock it and so glad you found a great project/client to use for the renovation. Your plan is beautiful and I love seeing your layout and elevation sketches. And please post your outfit choices – I’m so curious what you’ll choose and what the producer will let you wear too. Give us the inside scoop – love the behind the scenes details!
I want those pictures above the white fridge. And I definitely will try the orzo salad!
very exciting! Keep us posted. I know you’ll look fab.
