favorites series: Thomas O’Brien

Happy New Year!

I thought I’d start off this new year paying homage to those who continually inspire me.  At the top of my list are Darryl Carter, Kay Douglass, Atlanta Bartlett and Thomas O’Brien.  There are more up there, I just can’t recall at this exact moment.

Their works just speaks to me, for lack of a better phrase.  I find myself always going back to their books or tear sheets I’ve saved for reference.  They are artistic, balanced, textural, warm and white.

Thomas O’Brien satisfies my love of collections, for he’s been dubbed “the collector decorator”.

I first fell in love with his taste in Domino (2007):

And all over again from these images of the rooms he designed for Veranda’s Designer Showhouse:

(any coincidence that the same person behind Domino is now behind Veranda?  No wonder they are putting out such great stuff lately….)

His inspiration was “Someone to Watch Over Me”–watch below to get in the mood:

not a minimalist, for sure.

Love everything about this design….but the color.  Don’t know if I will ever dig any shade of purple.

a perfect, elegant powder room.

nailhead trim on the built-ins!

Love this bedroom!  The dark with light–the play on scale.  Lovely.

Oh, the floors.  Heaven.

He was good back in 1993 (House & Home)

And later in Country Living:

I’m always inspired in his use of collections.

You will always see him layering trays, objects, books, art.  And, of course, mixing woods, metals, finishes.

Be careful tonight.  We’re staying in.  Sitters are scarce.

Julie
